      1. Focus Question: Where can you find plastic in the water column and how might it affect the animals that live there? (write down the question, discuss it with your table group, then write some ideas about this in your notebook)

      2. Plastics Density and Buoyancy Activity

      • Be sure to record your prediction about whether each object will sink or float before you test it.
      3. Answer the questions in part 2 of the Plastics in the Water Column worksheet.

          Learning Goals:  What are some problems and solutions related to ocean pollution?

          Warm-Up
          Read: How plentiful is plankton in our world’s oceans? VERY. It is the primary source of food for the organisms living in the ocean. Scientists report that in some samples of water from The Pacific Garbage Patch, there were 6 times more plastics than plankton!
          Challenge question: If there are 6,384 pieces of plastic debris in one liter of sea water collected from The Garbage Patch, how many plankton were in the sample?
          1. Go to Google Classroom and complete Part 1 and Part 2 of the Pacific Garbage Patch assignment.


          3. Complete Part 3 of the Pacific Garbage Patch assignment.
